SHARRI WHITING (SHARRI WHITING DE MASI) lives in Italy, where she writes about food, wine, travel, international business and cross cultural issues. She lectures on cruises about European culture and history and writes often about Namibia, where she lived for four years.


She is Italian correspondent for Luxury Travel Advisor, Travel Agent and the blog, Travel Agent Central. She also writes for Food Arts, Travel Africa/​Travel Namibia and the blogs, RXPat (http:/​/​rxpat.blogspot.com) and Umbria Bella(http:/​/​umbriabella.blogspot.com). With her husband, retired diplomat Piero De Masi, she writes an annual Italian version of the magazine, Travel News Namibia.


Her stories have also appeared in the Wall Street Journal - Career Journal Europe, La Cucina Italia, expat/​HR, Boston Women's Business Journal, Los Angeles Times, Holland America Compass, Air Namibia Flamingo, The Tennessean, Mobile Bay Monthly, San Antonio Monthly.


She has written two books, CultureSmart!Namibia (Random House, New York, and Kuperard, London, 2008) and Top Ten Guide to Rome (The Internationalist, Boston, 2001). Her app, Olive Oil IQ, was published in 2011 by Sutro Media and is an essential for foodies and culinary travelers.


Sharri received her M.Sc. in Communications Management from Simmons College in Boston. She co-organizes a summer program in Italy for Simmons graduate students in communications management; she leads an annual seminar in international etiquette for the business department at American University of Rome, Italy.
